A Mother’s Love: Why Capturing These Moments Matters

With all the craziness of life, I’ve been doing a lot of reflecting as I’ve been editing my sessions. A dear friend of mine recently contacted me—it was finally time to take her youngest daughter’s senior portraits. I had been waiting years to capture these images for her, and that day was everything I hoped it would be. The laughter, the sweet interactions, the quiet moments between mother and daughter—it all got me thinking.

I’ve got to be honest—one of my favorite moments to capture is the connection between a mother and her child. There is something so beautiful, powerful, and raw about it—whether the “child” is a newborn, a high school senior, or about to get married.

There’s just something priceless about seeing a mother and child connect in front of my camera lens. It’s why all my Senior Sessions include a special “Mom and Me” photo, and why I always make sure to carve out time for a bride or groom to share a quiet moment with their mom on their wedding day.

✨ Cuddles. Laughter. The final moments before walking down the aisle. These interactions between a mother and her child, through all of life’s milestones, become part of a family’s legacy—memories that will be cherished for generations.

Why You Shouldn’t Wait to Have This Photo Session

No one wants to think about it, but life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in awhile you could miss it. Bonus points for knowing that quote, haha. Kids grow up. Families change. No one is around forever. Too often, we look back, wishing we had taken more time to capture those special moments while we had the chance.

I love looking through my own family’s photographs—seeing my parents and grandparents as children, witnessing the history of our family unfold through old images. Birthdays, holidays, everyday moments—these photos tell the story of where we come from. But when I look closely, there’s one thing missing in so many of them: Mom.

She’s always the one behind the camera, making sure everyone else’s memories are captured.

But here’s the thing: Moms deserve to be in the photos too.
